Thrifty Finds, etc.

I've got a whole mess of thrifty finds to unload on all of you this week! Without further ado:

 

Vintage Vera Scarf. I love the ladybug logo! Also found this great site for dating vintage Vera items .

Milton Bradley Memory game and Flash Cards from the '60s.

The pictures on the Memory tiles are to die for! I am so in love with the owls and the fox!!

Boska Tapas Fondue Set made in Holland. Not vintage, but it was new in the box at Savers, and I couldn't resist the whole Danish Modern feel. It will be perfect for our family's annual fondue party in February!

Vintage clutches.

Really neat cosmic kaleidoscope thingy made in France. Its an "hour by hour adjustable system for recognizing and locating the 35 and stars and 60 constellations." Did anyone else have StarLab in elementary school? This totally reminded me of that magical dome.

I was BEYOND excited to find these McDonald's Fireking mugs at the St. Vincent Dig&Save! They were around 35cents because everything is priced by the pound!! Speaking of McDonalds, THE CUSTARD PIE HAS RETURNED FOR THE HOLIDAYS! Pure bliss. Please RUN to your local McD's and order several if you haven't already.

I was very excited to thrift the perfect oak quilt rack! Now my quilts (made by my extremely talented grandmother (owl) and great-grandmother (patchwork) ) can be properly displayed! 

My grandma knew that me, my sister and our cousin are absolutely enamored with owls. And surprised us by making these quilts! One of the most special things ever.

And you know I found some Pyrex, of course! 

Beautiful 043 1 1/2 Qt casserole. This buttery yellow color is my absolute favorite, but I couldn't readily find the pattern name. Help!

This "Gourmet" pattern 2 1/2 qt casserole is perfect for the winter! The blue interior is gorgeous!

And the pièce de résistance:

GASP! The original box!!! 8 cup coffee carafe.

AND it came with the original brochure! PLUS I found it at the Dig&Save, so it probably ended up costing right around $1.00

And this kinda broke my heart a little. At the very bottom of the box was a wedding card! Someone received this as a wedding gift, and it was quite obviously never used! And then somehow ended up at the scummiest thrift store in town! I am so glad I saved it! I will cherish it forever (unlike the former bride and groom)

Maybe If I stopped procrastinating and started blogging more I wouldn't have to dump 3 weeks of finds into one extremely long-winded post!  Sorry! But real quick before you go:

Seven Secrets- (shhhh! don't tell anyone)

I was tagged last week by Katie at Katiee Bee to share 7 secrets! After letting this swim in the back of my mind for awhile, I think I finally figured out 7 juicy (not really) things about myself....but you have to promise to keep them on the down-low!

One. I groom my own dogs to save money- Taking one dog to the groomer is expensive enough, but two is just absolutely not in the budget! We've invested into some professional clippers that will easily pay for themselves in two haircuts! So the pups are a little uneven...fur grows fast!

Two. Speaking of dogs, I have two, but I'm really more of a cat person- Like, could be crazy cat lady given the right circumstances, cat-person. We had to give up our cat, Apple, earlier this year :( She just wasn't happy in a multi-pet household. One of the saddest days ever.

Three. I hate talking on the phone- Always have. Please send a text, email or even letter instead!

Four. I'm a loner- (Dottie, a rebel). Friends and family are great, but I prefer being by myself a majority of the time.

Five. Proud Hanson fan! Yeah, Hanson, the band. NSync and Backstreet were great, but I was gaga for Hanson. Did you know they're still touring and making new music? Would have gone to see them this summer if the show wasn't an hour and a half away on a weeknight!

Six. I was (am) terrified of ET- Yeah, the extra-terrestrial. My parents have stories of me screaming and crying as a child when they bought the movie for me! The part where he's all shriveled up and dying still freaks me out.

Seven. I'm obsessed with "checking-in"- Foursquare, Gowalla, Causeworld, and Yelp. If I'm out and about I am most definitely checking-in at all of my locales with one, or all of these apps on my iPhone. If you're with me, it's probably super annoying (sorry Laura), but I think its fun! And i WAS the queen of Madison on Yelp for awhile, but was dethroned by some old, bald guy who is probably cheating.

happY Thanksgiving!

This post is severely overdue- but I have a good excuse! Was at my parent's house since Wednesday and forget to take my USB camera cord to upload all of my pictures :( I realllly could have used something to do too (only so many new episodes of Pawn Stars to catch up on)...love being home, but lets just say four days was pushing it and everyone was starting to get a little irritable after the turkey comas wore off.

Last Sunday my sister and I decided to cook our version of Thanksgiving dinner at our apartment for our guys. Everything was purchased from Trader Joe's and it was all down-right DELICIOUS! Deliciousness undoubtedly aided by preparing nearly everything in PYREX!

The aftermath. And I'm happy to report all of the Pyrex cleaned up fabulously! Even all of that baked on cornbread. Won't hesitate to cook in it ever again!

Not sure what was happening here, but the look on Laura and her puppy's face is priceless!

And on Thanksgiving Day...I was incredibly thankful that my aunt gave me this set of Pyrex bowls from her own kitchen! My mom has been passing the word around that I'm a collector :)

Hope everyone had an awesome weekend and holiday if you celebrated! Back to the daily grind tomorrow :( But then I'm booked every weekend from here on out until Christmas. Decorating cookies, shopping, RIBS (more on that later) So here's to hoping the work week sails by!

This Weeks (and last weeks) Treasures

I've most certainly been procrastinating in getting my thrifty finds posted. But here they are in all of their glory. It was a great past two weeks at the local thrifts!

Vintage French card game Mille Bornes circa 1971. I distinctly remember playing this game in High School French class! And I can't pass up a game with all of the original pieces (especially for 35 cents!!!)

I've been looking to thrift a vintage Scrabble game for at least a year. Literally hadn't come across one, vintage or otherwise. I was beyond thrilled to FINALLY find this one at Savers. And it had all of the tiles!! Score!!

Kind of went out on a whim on this one. $12.99 is normally more than I'd spend on nearly anything at the thrift store. But with the original box and manual, this Kodak Brownie Reflex camera was irresistible. Since apparently they don't make film for these anymore, I'll have to settle for it looking cute on my bookshelf. 

Super cute owl latch hook (??) hanging. Its marked "Avon Products 1973." Will definitely be getting a frame for this guy! 

 

 

Now I normally don't give Glasbake or Fireking a second look. My heart is with Pyrex. But how could I pass up these dishes at 35 cents per pound at the St. Vincent's Dig and Save. Total for all three was under $2.00! And I do really like the patterns on all of these!

And now on to the PYREX!!

Pyrex for Weico carafe. 35 cents. I thought it looked like some kind of scientific beaker at first, but my Pyrex Collectors Guide told me otherwise.

Just in time for the holidays! A Snowflakes divided casserole!! I was out thrifting with my mom and very loudly gasped when I spotted this. My mom immediately thought something was wrong. No mom, things are quite alright!! 

And last but not least, a find that I'd love to get more information about. I absolutely have to give credit to my boyfriend for finding this one. We were at a sale, and I hadn't gotten to the kitchen section yet. Well when Kenny spotted this he instantly came bounding over to me with that "look what I found" grin! It's nice to have another trained eye around! Anyway, this is marked 1 1/2 Qt 023. But I cannot seem to find any cradle that looks remotely like this in my Collectors Guide, on Pyrex Love, or Flikr. I'm going to post about it over at the Collective and see if anyone might have more information...
