This Weeks (and last weeks) Treasures

I've most certainly been procrastinating in getting my thrifty finds posted. But here they are in all of their glory. It was a great past two weeks at the local thrifts!

Vintage French card game Mille Bornes circa 1971. I distinctly remember playing this game in High School French class! And I can't pass up a game with all of the original pieces (especially for 35 cents!!!)

I've been looking to thrift a vintage Scrabble game for at least a year. Literally hadn't come across one, vintage or otherwise. I was beyond thrilled to FINALLY find this one at Savers. And it had all of the tiles!! Score!!

Kind of went out on a whim on this one. $12.99 is normally more than I'd spend on nearly anything at the thrift store. But with the original box and manual, this Kodak Brownie Reflex camera was irresistible. Since apparently they don't make film for these anymore, I'll have to settle for it looking cute on my bookshelf. 

Super cute owl latch hook (??) hanging. Its marked "Avon Products 1973." Will definitely be getting a frame for this guy! 

 

 

Now I normally don't give Glasbake or Fireking a second look. My heart is with Pyrex. But how could I pass up these dishes at 35 cents per pound at the St. Vincent's Dig and Save. Total for all three was under $2.00! And I do really like the patterns on all of these!

And now on to the PYREX!!

Pyrex for Weico carafe. 35 cents. I thought it looked like some kind of scientific beaker at first, but my Pyrex Collectors Guide told me otherwise.

Just in time for the holidays! A Snowflakes divided casserole!! I was out thrifting with my mom and very loudly gasped when I spotted this. My mom immediately thought something was wrong. No mom, things are quite alright!! 

And last but not least, a find that I'd love to get more information about. I absolutely have to give credit to my boyfriend for finding this one. We were at a sale, and I hadn't gotten to the kitchen section yet. Well when Kenny spotted this he instantly came bounding over to me with that "look what I found" grin! It's nice to have another trained eye around! Anyway, this is marked 1 1/2 Qt 023. But I cannot seem to find any cradle that looks remotely like this in my Collectors Guide, on Pyrex Love, or Flikr. I'm going to post about it over at the Collective and see if anyone might have more information...

 

 

This Weeks Treasures

I had quite a successful week thrifting. I brought home the first haul from Goodwill on Wednesday. (Stopped in on a whim since I didn't find anything worth writing home about at Savers). 

First off an excellent (leather?)Diane Von Furstenberg suitcase. Plan on using it for the upcoming 36 hour roadtrip with the fam next weekend.

Dexter is graciously helping to showcase it for me.

 

Next, two very generously priced Pyrex casserole dishes!!!! 

Black Tulip (043) 1 1/2 Qt casserole (without lid) 

"Pressed Flowers" (043) 1 1/2 Qt casserole (with lid!!) I absolutely LOVE the buttery yellow color of this dish. Definitely in my top three favorite finds thus far.

Thanks to a post by The Bounty Huntress , I decided to check out my local St. Vincent de Paul "Dig & Save" Outlet yesterday. It's basically a huge warehouse with rows and rows of deep cardboard boxes, and you literally have to dig in. Everything is then priced by the pound. I stayed away from the clothing and linens for the most part, but found my mecca in the household section. 35 cents per pound!!!!!

Here's the haul. Everything you see added up to $2.80- TOTAL. Nearly fainted with excitement!

Universal China "Ballerina Mist" plate and sugar/creamer set. You can't really tell from the picture put the color is the most lovely shade of misty green.

Two Taylor, Smith and Taylor "Ever Yours" dishes. I've amassed a nice little collection of dinnerware in this vintage pattern.

Object: Collect the Biggest Bargain

I had an excellent time at Savers last night! There was a definite moment where my thrifty heart skipped a couple beats. I had to check over my shoulder a few times for any lurkers- then I snatched this:

A vintage Pyrex Instant Coffeemaker!

It even came with the original pamphlet! Score! (Oh yeah, and it was only $3.99!)

I also found:

A nice retro Diane Von Furstenberg button down shirt (I WILL be removing the shoulder pads!)

Could this be any more perfect?? I will school anyone who wants to challenge me at this game!

Lastly, these were very much out of my norm:

Never picked up a knitting needle in my life...but these adorable stocking kits sure make me want to learn how to knit (LOVE the kitty cat one)! Alternately, they also made me think of Etsy. Definitely don't have my own shop...yet. Are these the kinds of things Etsy crafters are looking for?

Books and Thrifty Finds

To begin, I can FINALLY check something off of my to-do list. I finished reading On the Road! Kerouac's writing style was a bit difficult to get into...but in the end I really did love it. I'm sure the movie adaptation that's currently in the works will completely ruin it :(

I've been looking forward to going to my library to choose my next read...

I picked Lolita.

Speaking of books...look what finally came in the mail:

Those are Pumpkin Spice Kisses sitting in the scarecrow decoration. Too good to be true!

So he wasn't thrifted, but he was sitting all lonely-like on a clearance shelf. Only $12!!

It's a Wonderful Life

What a wonderful weekend! Good company and great wine at the Wet Whistle Fest in Algoma, WI. Just a quick "36-hour road trip" with my sister, parents, and family friends. Didn't want it to end! But alas, back to the daily grind. Countdown to next weekend is on!

Started the weekend by making guacamole in my Butterfly Gold bowl (I don't think guacamole photographs well !!!)
