This Weeks Treasures

 Today I found out that I won a contest through one of my favorite radio stations! 2 tickets to a local event called Crackle: Fire & Froth. It's being held at the botanical gardens and is basically a huge outdoor bonfire featuring local food and microbreweries! I had been wanting to go but wasn't sure I wanted to pay $20/ticket. I am beyond excited! Hope to take some good pics! This was probably the highlight of my week, but I did have a relatively good week at the thrift stores (hoping to make it a great week with a stop at the Dig & Save on Saturday!)

Where's Waldo twin bed sheet. Rebecca over at Late Night Coffee  recently did a post about keeping an eye out for retro character sheets. If I ever get around to setting up shop on ebay, this sheet is getting listed! 

Cute black and white gingham apron. Used it tonight to make a delectable tuna noodle casserole. I love comfort food so much.

This is my favorite. And I don't think the picture does it justice. Its a dress by Maggy London and I just found out this designer retails for $100+ at Nordstroms! I paid $10!

Love the pattern. Have already decided it will be perfect to wear for Thanksgiving!

My stack o' books

Stitch 'N Bitch Nation. I am in the very early stages of learning how to knit (got the knit stitch down- purl next!) Tons of cute "hipster" projects in this book. 

Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook circa 1956. Nearly 500 pages chock full of cooking tips and recipes. Betty is by far my favorite cookbook author, screw Rachel Ray ;) 

Stitches by David Small. This one almost made me wet my pants when I saw it. Not becaure I've ever heard of it but because of this: 

OMG! An advanced reading copy. This is like pre- first edition material right here. Although generally not as valuable as a first edition, these things get me hot and bothered. It may have something to do with the fact that I'm not legally supposed to own it (notice the NOT FOR SALE). Okay like I said, I'd never heard of this book before, but the back cover revealed this synopsis:  "One day David Small awoke from a supposedly harmless operation to discover he had been transformed into a virtual mute. A vocal chord removed, this throat slashed and stitched together like a bloody boot, the fourteen-year-old-boy had not been told that he had throat cancer and was expected to die..."

Keep in mind this is a MEMOIR (in the form of a graphic novel)! Holy shit- now i'm wetting my pants out of fear!!

Books and Thrifty Finds

To begin, I can FINALLY check something off of my to-do list. I finished reading On the Road! Kerouac's writing style was a bit difficult to get into...but in the end I really did love it. I'm sure the movie adaptation that's currently in the works will completely ruin it :(

I've been looking forward to going to my library to choose my next read...

I picked Lolita.

Tally Ho board game circa 1961. I couldn't resist the graphics and it had all the original pieces.

Those are Pumpkin Spice Kisses sitting in the scarecrow decoration. Too good to be true!

So he wasn't thrifted, but he was sitting all lonely-like on a clearance shelf. Only $12!!
